Taiwan Railway Tour, October - November 2024

The Puffing Billy Preservation Society, in association with Railway Adventures Tours, have organised an 18 day trip to Taiwan in October this year. The main focus of this trip is to visit the narrow-gauge railways of Taiwan including the famous Alishan Forest Railway, recently reopened to its mountain terminal after years of work to bypass a landslide (sound familiar!)
The trip includes visits to several narrow gauge and mainline railways in Taiwan and also allows for visits to major cities and tourist attractions as well as railway focussed activities.

The Society has maintained a close relationship with the Alishan Forest Railway since the Taiwan Government Forest Bureaux donated a Shay locomotive to our museum back in 1972. Last year we met with a delegation from the Alishan Forest Railway during their visit to various heritage railways around Australia. They provided a presentation on their railway's activities and we updated them on PBPS. It was at this presentation that the idea for the Society organising a tour of Taiwan was first raised.

We have finally received the brochure and all tour details. It sounds like a fantastic trip and I'm sure all who go will have a fabulous time.

The brochure is attached, however if you would like a printed version posted to you, we can arrange this by reply to this email or phone call to the Society office at (03) 9757 0767.

Andrew Webster has coordinated tour arrangements with the tour provider, Railway Adventures, and can be contacted if you have any questions going forward. Andrew will be the Society representative on the tour.

Andrew can be contacted

  • by email on andrewwebster100@gmail.com or

  • by leaving a text message on 0413 272 436.

The trip has been confirmed to go ahead and there are still some places for more if interested. Contact Railway Adventures on 1300 800 977 for more information and to book.

If this trip is successful, we hope to offer it again next year.

Have a great time and the Society would love a selection of photos after your travel.
